Students will learn about the system of and the need for pollination, the concept Integrated Pest Control (IPM) and the possible problems of introducing non-indigenous species to an existing environmental system. Students will learn more about IPM as it relates to various systems by acting out roles as insects, farmers and agricultural engineers in a play. They will realize agricultural engineers work in various settings such as, laboratories, factories, greenhouses and power plants. After school students will recognize that the natural world is made up of its own set of systems. Pollination- the transfer of pollen from the male part of the flower to the female part of the flower is a natural system that is responsible for seed growth. Students will also learn that when a part of the natural system is missing, as they will discover in the story “Mariana,” about the missing pollinating insect; the system does not work. |
